Scuderia 1918 Talent Team Campus: a Retrospective

Massazza, Italy – From June 4 to 24, at the Research & Training Center of Scuderia 1918, Talent Team Campus took place. This dynamic three-week program brought together three Top Talents and professionals for an unparalleled blend of intense training, inspiring lessons, and fun-filled activities.

A Comprehensive Equestrian Experience

Horse Training

Participants, including the talented Ferrante Anchisi, Carolina Villanueva Suarez and Lorenzo Patrese, honed their riding skills under the expert guidance of Olympic rider Giorgio Nuti. Nuti’s expertise provided invaluable insights into advanced riding techniques, horse management, and competition preparation, elevating the riders’ proficiency to new heights.

“We absolutely need programs like this, where young talents can really acquire new skills consistently and with coherence. I really hope that this experience can be repeated and especially set an example for the Federations.” – Giorgio Nuti

Physical & Mental Training for Riders

Laura Hämäläinen, Founder and CEO of Equestrain App, designed specialized workouts and nutrition plans to optimize the riders’ performance. Her sessions focused on pre-ride and post-ride routines, targeted workouts for seat improvement, and individualized sports nutrition plans.

Business Lessons

Participants also delved into the business side of equestrian sports with lessons on sports marketing, financial management, and leadership. Throughout the program, riders engaged in a variety of masterclasses and workshops designed to equip them with essential business skills.

Topics covered included the growth mindset for entrepreneurs, effective sales strategies, lean startup methodology, idea generation, MVP development, branding, storytelling, and investment strategies. These sessions provided valuable insights into the commercial aspects of equestrian sports, emphasizing the importance of branding, effective financial planning, and strategic leadership.

One of the main goals was to refine their communication abilities, ensuring they could confidently present themselves and their ideas. These lessons equipped the riders with the tools to effectively engage with sponsors, media, and other stakeholders, enhancing their overall professional careers.

Marie Marks, CEO of Bridl, emphasized the significance of these business lessons: “Empowering riders with business acumen is crucial for their long-term success. By understanding the commercial dynamics of the equestrian industry, they can make informed decisions and strategically position themselves for growth. This holistic approach sets them up for a prosperous future in the equestrian world.”

Team-Building Activities

Throughout the Talent Team program, the riders engaged in a variety of exhilarating team-building events that were instrumental in fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and collaboration among them.

From the strategic challenges of the scavenger hunt and commando training to the high-adrenaline activities like paintball and go-kart racing, each event was meticulously crafted to enhance teamwork and creativity.

The riders practiced their stage presence and public speaking during pitch practice sessions, while archery, knife throwing, and axe throwing tested their focus and precision. Building a boat and breaking boards in martial arts/self-defense sessions promoted problem-solving and resilience.

A thrilling helicopter ride offered a unique perspective and unforgettable memories, while the campfire with fireside chats provided a relaxing environment for reflection and bonding. These diverse experiences not only strengthened the riders’ relationships but also equipped them with invaluable skills that will benefit their personal and professional lives.

Showcasing Future Leaders

At the end of the three-week program, the Talent Team had the opportunity to present itself to a select group of sponsors. During this presentation, the riders engaged in a comprehensive discussion on the current state of the equestrian market and they presented the advantages of supporting a Team rather than Riders as individuals.
