The Italian Army Inaugurates Its New Sport Horse Breeding Program

At the “Centro Militare di Equitazione di Montelibretti” (“Military Equestrian Center of Montelibretti”), the Italian Army officially inaugurated its new horse breeding program during a ceremony attended by the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, General Carmine Masiello, alongside military authorities, representatives of the sporting and institutional world, and guests from the breeding and equestrian sectors.

The project represents a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the Italian Army’s historic equestrian tradition while supporting the development of high-level sport horses for both sporting and institutional purposes.

During the event, the first foals born in 2025 were officially presented. Among this promising group were also foals born from sires and mares provided by Scuderia 1918, including Scuderia 1918 Halifax van het Kluizebos, Scuderia 1918 Tobago Z, and Scuderia 1918 Casago.

This partnership brings together two complementary visions: the historic expertise of the Italian Army in horse breeding and the sporting experience of Scuderia 1918 in international show jumping.

The new breeding initiative represents an important investment in the genetic heritage of Italian sport horses and aims to develop future horse-rider combinations capable of competing at the highest level. The program focuses particularly on the Olympic disciplines of show jumping and eventing, while also supporting the Italian Army’s institutional needs related to training, education, and representation.

The breeding project has been developed alongside the Italian Army Youth Sports Group, creating a structured pathway that combines the development of talented young riders with the availability of high-quality horses.

Seeing these young horses take their first steps represents more than just a milestone for the project. It is a glimpse into a future where tradition, innovation and respect for the horse come together to support the next generation of Italian sport horses.
